Good morning,

I will be relocating to Birmingham area in about 2 months. I am looking for a one-two bedroom apartment in the price range of no more than $900-$1000 monthly. I don't have a particular area I would like to reside in, I only request that it is safe! I would like an apartment that includes hard wood flooring (or hardwood like flooring) throughout or in certain parts of the apartment, as I have a dog. Him and carpet just don't get along lol. Please offer any suggestions for a SAFE, nice one bedroom apartment complex in the Birmingham/Hoover area.

Actual Names for apartment complex facilities would be helpful, as I am new to the area and not familiar with (Downtown Birmingham apartments or Southside area Apartments).

The key question is where will you be working or going to school?

I will be working in the Downtown Birmingham area, but I don't have to neccessarily reside downtown because I know that most of those apartments are over $1000, even for a one bedroom. I will stay anywhere in the Birmingham/SURROUNDING AREAS as soon as it's within my price range and SAFE.

I would offer that any apartment on Birmingham's Southside between 20th Street and Forest Park will be perfectly safe. Of course, you need to come here first and see if it passes the eyeball test.

A lot of the Hoover apartments are aging and not really good places to live anymore. If you are working downtown, I would go no further south than Homewood. There are some decent apartments on Lakeshore to the west if you cannot afford to live in the City of Birmingham itself, or in Homewood.

Good luck, because rental markets are sky-high right now. Combining safe and cheap are not going to get you far in B'ham area.

Oh no :-(, well thanks for your input. I will check out Homewood. How far would Homewood be from the Downtown area (just an estimation)?
