I have been accepted and will be attending UAB in the fall. I am an older student and need a small one bedroom apartment. I am also considering an efficiency in the dorms. I would be open for something like that in the Fultondale or Gardendale area, however, I don't want to be very far from UAB. As an older student, I definitely need something in a safe area where. I don't need a lot of room, just something small and inexpensive if possible.

Almost all of Southside, especially from the Red Mountain Expressway east to Crestwood, is perfectly safe. I'd really consider that if I were you.

The area I'm talking about is about 1-1.5 miles away from campus.

Here's what you do....go to Google Maps and look up Highland Avenue. That will give you a feel for proximity.

Fultondale is 5-7 miles away from the campus...a northern suburb.
