This is for all you Rednecks that would like to know what is on the north side of the Mason-Dixon line. What is a Yankey? I have lived in the south all my life and traveled to New Jersey once and seen some strange things. Does any one else have any thoughts.

Who are you calling a redneck?

Actually; some Northern states can have quite a 'redneck' (before the word became fashionable) core as well. The standing joke about Pennsylvania is that there is Pittsburgh on one side with Philly on the other-----------and, 'Alabama' in the middle.

NOTE: that was not meant to be a slam against Alabama folks, etc..........that was how that state was described. Hell; I would vastly prefer to live in either Alabama or Mississippi.

And; I am something of a 'Redneck' myself

Before adressing someone as redneck - you may want to read a recent thread about the term redneck.
And - what is a "yankey"?

Since my family is full of both Yankees and rednecks (being from the Alabama part of PA), I guess I'm glad I'm not a yankey too.

I concider myself a Redneck and proud of the fact. Went to collage, have a good job, can't spell for crap but I love the country life. I don't care what someone calls me at least they have acknowledged me and have not ignored me. If you are offended by something it must hit close to home. Just my thought.

A Yankey is the third cousin to "adressing". I was hooked on phonics but broke the habbit. If you crack on spelling check your own.

obviously it is a term that comes from the civil war, where the northern states were the yankee states and there were the confederate states of the south, but it is also a reference to the frame of thought possesed in the locale. I would go into it, but from being in the south for such a long time I realize that rednecks are not very..... uhh... appreciative of differences in opinion. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being a redneck. well I am definitely a Yankee, born and raised in NYC and I am very proud of that, for I feel that I've been exposed to a level of culture that is not possible anywhere that I have been in the south.

Default A Yankee ?????

That is a derogatory term for a northerner, used by someone from the south. It dates back to the war between the states, where the south was tortured by northerners, for many years during "reconstruction". There is a great book, called "The Real Lincoln", by Thomas Dilorenzo....it is a fantastic read and will enlighten you on why some people from the south have carried a grudge for all these years.
