I was watching the news today, and I heard that there might(a small chance) be a Cahaba County! The cities of Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Hoover, and some other parts of southern Jefferson County will become Cahaba County. This became a hot topic because these communities feel that Jefferson County isn't doing its job when it comes to helping these communities out! How do you guys feel about this if, by chance, this will happen?

Would you like to post a link to that?

Otherwise, I don't believe you. I think you made that up just to have another annoying, meaningless topic on the board.

This WAS on the news tonight (Thursday 12 Feb 09). The Mayor of Hoover brought it up at a lunchen today. People are getting sick of how Jefferson County is being run. I'm sure as time goes on, we will hear more and more on this.

10511. Cahaba County

If you have been listening to the news or reading the newspaper lately you will know that several cities, including Hoover, Mt. Brook, Homewood, etc. are playing with the idea of forming their own county - Cahaba County. Because of the mess that Jefferson county is in, these cities are sick and tired of being a part of all the mismanagement, corruption, etc., and want to get away from it. I think Trussville should consider joining the campaign to form a new county; afterall, Trussville is truly a part of the "Cahaba region".

I think the better alternative to this is to just dissolve the city of Birmingham and Jefferson County allowing them to be absorbed by the surrounding counties and communities. Maybe the politicians in the surrounding areas will be slightly more competent than the idiots that are in control now.

Default no way

This idea has been floating around out there for years----privately

Bottom line, it's not likely to happen given the approval process at the state level, and how tremendously insular the true power houses are---namely The City of Mountain Brook, and the City of Vestavia Hills

Yep, it's real, all right...so real that the B'ham News came out with an editorial slamming the idea.

I emailed the mayor of Hoover asking if there was a website up to describe just what would be included in Cahaba County and what would the process of creating same involve. I got back a nice reply, but there's no web page up as of yet.

Cahaba River is right outside our house in Leeds, Leeds is the only tri-city around as it is in Jefferson, shelby and St.Clair counties.
