What is it with my kids? They say and do some of the darndest things. My youngest daughter especially. I'm telling you, the girl lives in her own world. And it's a very special and happy world.

The syrup in the bellybutton is the most recent event. It started with breakfast and waffles. She was wearing her bathing suit. She's one of those kids who can't eat anything without wearing it. She gets it from her father. I'm afraid that he is the same way. When she discovered that there was syrup in her bellybutton, you would think that she would instinctively go wash it out. But, oh no! Not this child. It is much funner to show everyone how you can make your bellybutton stick together and almost disappear. Of course, this meant that all the other children had to try do the same thing and when they couldn't, that was when she proudly proclaimed, "I have syrup in my bellybutton and I like it." Yep, she's a special one. Then there's another recent event when the oldest girl was having a sleep-over and the kids were playing charades. Someone had made a guess at what the answer was, the person who was "it" said, "no, but you all just keep hollering out." Well, that was when the cute, young one decided to "holler out". No, not any words, just a nice, cute "aaahhhhh!". It was really quite funny, but I had to explain to her that was not what they meant.

I have a mommy gripe. I'm sure it's not just me. I'm sure that it's every mom. But why? My kids ALWAYS need ME! Dad can be home, standing right in the kitchen and the kids will seek me out and ask me to get them a glass of water. They are helpless and they must also think that their dad is. Here's one of my favorites...."Mom! I'm all done and my butt needs wiped!" When will this stop? OK, I know the answer...when they learn to do it for themselves. And according to the track record, I've got about two more years with the youngest. But why is it that I never hear, "dad, I'm all done and...."?

My little princess...

I have to believe that raising kids is the hardest job out there. Give me lion taming, snake charming, sewer inspector, whatever! It's just got to be easier than taming a child. Oops, I mean, raising a child.

My sweet, darling, little girl, you know, the one with syrup in her belly-button, the same one who believes that girls don't mow yards, well, here it is her first year in 'real' school and she has already refused to participate in Phys Ed. That's right. My 5 YO got a zero...

Rain, Rain go away. And...

...remembering to be thankful.

It has been raining for 3 days. My kids finally went back to school on Monday and on Tuesday the were out for our first official 'bad weather day'. Yes, TS Fay was heading our way and they couldn't wait to send those little kids home to us. I think all moms were just a little upset. Here we are completely ready to get back into the grind of life with kids back at school and they slam the brakes on us. Well, Tuesday was wet and rainy and they reopened...

School & Fun Nights

Posted 08-16-2008 at 06:26 AM by weatherologist (I have syrup in my bellybutton & I like it...)

Last night was Meet Your Teacher. I'll have a K, 1st, & 2nd this year. I volunteered to be on the PTA. I am in charge of Family Fun Nights. During meet the teacher, the PTA offers pizza and soda. This was my duty. My kids watched for a week as I made phone call, bought sodas, and prepared hard for what was to be my first event.

I think the evening was quite a success. Steady, hard work...but lots of parents and children streaming through. My kids and husband were there....

boys and men...

Posted 08-12-2008 at 09:48 AM by weatherologist (I have syrup in my bellybutton & I like it...)

Boys are different. They do things and see things that girls don't. They collect rocks and... garbage. All of my boys have collected rocks. Rocks are cool. It doesn't matter what kind of rock or where it came from. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a rock; just have a rock 'shape'. I can remember my oldest son bringing rocks home from everywhere and there was a time that he could tell you where he found them. "This one was from Grandma's house. I got this one in that parking lot."...
