I have done a ton of research on the site and am trying to narrow down the place(s) we may want to live should we decide on calling Boise our new home?
It seems like a great fit for us. My wife is in the process of gaining employment at St. Lukes in Boise and soon thereafter will be checking out things with a trip.
I have looked at several of the neighborhoods. We will most likely rent for 6months to a year but wanted to narrow down our areas. We want great schools for our kids but also would like a sizable lot, nothing HUGE maybe 1.0 acre or a little less?
We don't mind a 15-20 minute commute to get to the city itself. Is there such an area that you can buy a building lot and choose your builder or maybe even construct a log home?
Just curious if someone can narrow my research. Thanks for any assistance.
Also where is a good place to stay when we come to visit? Any recomendations? Just wife and I. She will be interviewing at St. Lukes but we want to be able to see as much as the area as possible....
Probably Nampa, or on the peripheries of Meridian, Eagle, Star, or Kuna.
Is cost a factor?
Also, I think you might have issues combining properties with acreage and school quality. The better schools are the Boise schools and then the Meridian schools. Eagle, Star, Nampa and Kuna not so much.
Can anyone tell me whcih zip code they prefer if looking for homes in the actual Boise area? I would like to narrow down our focus to the best Boise schools and see what we can afford in that regard...Thanks
I briefly looked in those zip's and WOW I can't afford much home in those areas? There seems to be a few but are much older and may require some updating....
If I would have to shift my focus to Meridian what are the drawbacks there? Are the schools in Meridian that much worse in comparison?
If you can't afford those zip codes you're probably not going to be able to afford property (+1 acre) within 45 minutes of St. Lukes.
Meridian is certainly cheaper... and will have good schools. Count Eagle and Star out as well. Kuna is the cheapest, and you *might find some property and still be ~30 minutes from St. Lukes, but the schools aren't as good as in Boise and Meridian.
I will also say... if you're coming from central PA and you're looking to escape the weather (as per your prior posts), you're not going to find that escape here in Boise. The weather will be almost exactly the same... a bit warmer here, definitely warmer summers... but the same cloudly, gloomy overcast winters.
It looks like you've explored Colorado, Phoenix, and are now going through the process of feeling out Boise.... I might caution you need to explore a bit more. Come out and visit for a week.... like right now. Get a feel for the place. You'll never get that on the internet.
We are not trying to escape the weather her per say. From what I researched so far Boise does not get 120 plus inches of snow per year along with the other rainy precip throughout the year. Also there is no mountains here, although there is a lake. Also the summers here if hot are very humid. Our resins for Boise might be right on track...milder winter, dryer air, better scenery and an area good to raise a family. Also we don't want to leave the 4 seasons and AZ. Colorado seemed similar to Boise except over populated with more crime.
