You would rarely (if ever) need to water your lawn when the canals are dry. They don't go dry until late in the season.

If you needed to for some reason, you'd grab a hose water it that way or attach a hose-powered sprinkler.

Maybe I spoken too soon. It looks as though those of us on irrigation water may have to begin using city water soon. The news this morning had an article about possibly having to turn off the irrigation near the first week of September due to an unusually dry season.

Maybe it isn't close enough to get to it? The ditches are limited in my area (on the Bench) and you have to pump it from the smaller ditches to your hard. I can get to it, the house on one side of me can't, and nobody across the street has access. They'd have to run a hose from the alley, across someone's property, then across the street to their homes, which probably isn't allowed.

If you have easy access, you could buy a pump and use a sprinkler, or find a way to connect it to your sprinkler system.
