I will be moving to Boise and do not know where to live.

I am seeking a mid-price apartment within 20 miles of the airport.

Desirable amenities include nearby grocery stores and parks for hiking.

And I would like to avoid airlines overhead.

Can anyone recommend a general area?

Thank you for your help.

You just described most all of Boise. There is minimal air traffic and most of the population density is on the other side of the city from the airport. You could seriously live anywhere in Boise and be 20 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes from the foothills, and 20 minutes from great shopping.

For you I'd recommend somewhere off Broadway or along Boise Ave., i.e., SE Boise.
Close to WinCo, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, not too far from the mall or downtown.
Avoid SW Boise, that's where all the air traffic noise is.

If you look at Boise on Google Maps and draw lines out that extend the runways out either direction, that's where the worst air traffic is. So Columbia Village in east Boise, or the area between about Orchard and Five Mile (east-west) and Franklin and Victory (north-south). Beyond that you won't get much air traffic, though everywhere is going to get some because there are several regular routes in and out of the airport and you've also got military planes that don't necessarily follow regular patterns.

So avoid those areas, and you can find the rest of your list in most anywhere.

I'd say this is accurate except the Columbia Village reference. We've lived here a along time. Most of the air traffic was routed to the south/sw some time ago. We get a rare jet over head and occasionaly some activity from Gowan and/air tankers gathering water for the fires. But it's not a steady and regular occurance. (Or at least I don't notice it much!)

SE Boise has great access to the greenbelt and is much less population dense. It's worth keeping ON your list rather than checking it off before you've experienced it.
