My daughter works as a vet in Nampa and currently lives in Boise. In the last few years, we have visited her half a dozen times both in Nampa and Boise..
We had an extended stay late last year from October to December to be with her during her chemotherapy at MSTI at St. Luke. All the people I have met and interacted with at the hospital, dentist office, various doctor offices (my husband has back pain & esophagus blockage during our stay), gas stations, car repair shop, restaurants, grocery stores etc. have been helpful, warm and friendly.
We originally came from the Michigan and had a bit of a culture shock when we moved to Boston/Cambridge area then later on to the Mid Hudson Valley in New York. The East Coast folks especially in the big cities are pretty much to themselves and some can be down right snobbish. After 25 years living here, we have made quite a few good friends and belong to several local community groups. So there are very nice and friendly people here once they get a chance to know you better (through work, hobbies, churches - it's very hard to make friends with neighbors where we live with acreage houses).
Living in Boise for an extended time, I felt like we had come back to the more trusting, friendly Midwest culture.
We made an offer for a house in Sunny slope, Caldwell and will move there in mid March. The main reason was to be close to our daughter. We will have to find local groups to join (aviation, birding, hiking, watersport and hopefully videography/photography clubs) and to make new friends, forming new community ties. I don't think that it will take us long to feel 'at home' again.
Don’t move here. We have enough people here now. Prices are going up on everything and wages are the lowest in the country as well as lowest ranked schools in the country. Boise is not all it’s cracked up to be. Posts that you see online are often misleading when they state Best Pkace to live. There ARE better places to live than Boise, Idaho. The grass is NOT always greener.
Well, LOL, I surely can't think of any better place to live than Boise Idaho My grass is a beautiful shade of green.
