My family is looking for a place to live where we can breathe more easily. We suffer from seasonal allergies and this can be quite miserable at times. Is there anyone who is willing to share what their experience has been in the Boise area? I would greatly treasure any information you folks could give me. Thank you in advance
I would think it would heavily depend on what you are allergic to.
I'm allergic to something that isn't the "high pollen" count days.
As a lifelong Boise native, and a 3rd generation Idahoan, I've never had any allergies at all in my first 35 or so years, but the last few years, something new has apparently moved into the area that I'm allergic to. I would say that I developed a new allergy, except that my mom developed the same new allergy as me at the same exact time. That seems unlikely that she and I would develop the same new allergy the same week. Around that same time, they did a bunch of road construction right by my office and planted a bunch of decorative plants in medians. I'm assuming it is something in there.
Now, I have a few miserable days each year, but the rest of the year, I'm fine.
Hopefully, someone who is more knowledgeable about what specific allergens are problems here, comes along and answers your questions.
There are allergy clinics here in the Boise area so there must be enough people with allergies to support it. I am allergic to grass and sagebrush so those take their toll on me in early June and about October and I am fine the rest of the year. We have the benefit of the full four seasons so the good news is that your allergies may not be year round. If you have isolated what you are allergic to, I know people that have taken shots to counteract the allergy and done quite well.
As a former midwesterner with allergies, I will say that the dry air hear helps a TON, vs humid air in the midwest.
Outside of that, we have allergens here too, just depends what you are actually allergic to and what your reaction to them is. I never got itchy anything from my allergies, it was always a congested/runny thing with the dry air here helps a lot.
Weirdly, I didn't have allergies back east, but I have them pretty bad in Boise. Spring and fall are the worst. My husband had them back east and they didn't get any better here. It all depends on what you are allergic to.
We are from Florida and my wife has more allergies in Boise than Florida, which seems very odd. I have noticed I am somewhat allergic these days too. Summer with the smoke from the fires was really difficult. My sister in law has really bad sinus issues too, and she lives here. So, there is something here that some people are affected by.
I bet if you called one o the allergies clinic someone might be able to tell you about it.

My personal experience has been that seasonal allergies for me here are basically zero compared to the East Coast (no ragweed here). But fire season is hard. Maybe only two weeks a year but very hard.
Do you have an allergist? The serum for allergy testing comes in bundles specific for areas. Your allergist can get the test serum for Boise and test your whole family to see what you will be allergic to in the Boise area.
There is agriculture in the Boise area and people who move in bring all sorts of plants in for their gardens. There is plenty available to be allergic to.
I've recently developed spring allergies here, despite living here most of my life. I haven't gone in to find out what is causing it, and it's not a major thing. Typically the winter dryness affects me more, or the summer smoke. All in all it's not a terrible place for allergies!
