We are relocating to Boise this summer. I've been unsuccessful in finding answers to these questions online, but I would greatly appreciate your help from personal experience or if you can direct me to any place online where I may get this information.
1) Is the Middle School curriculum the same within a school district? Do all schools offer Orchestra? Where can I find this information? (I am having a hard time navigating the school district websites.
2) Competitive Swimming: It seems there are three year round swim teams in the area. Any experience with these to answer some specific questions regarding size, coaching style, etc.?
3)Charter schools: I'm assuming that you have to already live in the area to apply. Is that the case?
ETA: We are looking into ADA County, but are open to other areas nearby.
Hi mlv, I think your questions are just too specific. A mother’s forum might give better feedback.
here’s what I know:
I knwo of two area charter schools for middle schoolers, Idaho fine arts academy and treasure valley math and science academy.
Generally, all the schools locally are fine. What’s unusual about the Treasure Valley is there aren’t too many “scary no nay never schools”.
The premier high school is Boise High located downtown.
Private schools are very very cheap. There is a new catholic k-8 in meridian, st ignatius. It’s probablh only about 5 k a year. The Ambrose academy (Protestant) looks very good and is 6k a year.
Good luck.
Sorry, mlv, I’m only in homeschooling mother’s groups. Probably any place you buy a house in Boise or MeridIan the middles schools will be fine. SE Boise and downtown Boise are where Bosie’s more educated tend to live, for what it’s worth. But there is probably less difference between schools as most places. All are fine and similar.
Boise swim club - coworker's son swims competitively year round. More laid back than the Y.
The Y - really competitive. Place to swim if you are looking for a college scholly.
Nampa has a year round swim team. Similar to boise swim club.

My granddaughter is in Orchestra at Galileo which is a STEM school in Eagle and a school of choice. There are Charter Schools and Schools of Choice. I am very familiar with the West Ada Shool District, not so much Boise but here are the links to both specific pages for info on Orchestra Middle School or Junior High curriculum.

Schools of Choice and Charter Schools have attendance boundaries with those in the immediate area given priority.
Hope this helps!

Thank you. I will have to research further the distinction between choice and charter schools.
