Was having a discussion with a couple that I've known for years here in Boise the other month.
They relocated here from Pocatello ~20 years ago when Boise was literally heaven on earth so
to speak. They're retiring in 5 years and have decided to move back to Pocatello as the growth
and cost of living in the Treasure Valley is just too much for them these days.
Still, when looking to move away from Boise, it's not that easy to find a better, quieter and less
expensive place to live. We do like Bellingham, WA where our younger daughter lives although
it's more expensive than Boise.
Most folks are looking into relocating to Boise and Southwest Idaho, but others are planning to
leave for good.
I wonder what it'd be like to live in Nephi, UT which is halfway btw Boise and Falgstaff, AZ.
Talk about extremes. Utah is another world ( and one i'd prefer to stay Out of having recently getting out of there after 25 years). If you're a Mormon Pocatellos is fine, there are plenty of them there. Otherwise I don't seen it comparing to Boise in any way, shape or form. To each their own no doubt, but Utah has NO draw for me having lived there too long. As for the smaller towns south of the Salt Lake area talk about clanish to the hilt. Good luck with that.
The whole country is changing, Boise is just one such example of the changing landscape. We either embrace it, or on the losing battle of fighting the inevitable.

My reference to Nephi, UT was strictly tongue-in-cheek. Not the least bit interested in
living where there's a higher density of LDS compared to Boise. If you're in Hagerman,
that's actually a pretty cool town.
If you like the outdoor nature of Boise....the other choice is Spokane.
If you like the city aspects of Boise........the other choice is Eugene.
In both cases, you will the advantages of the climate in Boise. Spokane will be cheaper, Eugene more expensive.
I thought Boise got to big when it cleared 200,000 in the metro area
Spokane, unfortunately, has a violent and property crime rate more than twice
as much as Boise. It's also higher than the national average.
