I feel like Meridian is probably safer than Boise. Yeah Nampa is 20% hispanic. Not to the point of gangs anymore, it's still not as good. I feel Nampa is making strides though. I just walked aorund the downtown yesterday and it's nice. Probably nicer than Meridian's downtown.

I'm not sure if the new Amazon center will have a huge boost to Nampa's economy. There definitely seems to be an increase in jobs in Nampa and then some people who work in Meridian or Boise, chose to be in Nampa because it's cheaper. One of my housemates is a software dev in Meridian, but lives in Nampa.

My company does social services in Nampa and we want to expand there.

Leaps and bounds better than Meridian downtown, which is nearly non-existent. Meridian grew so fast it never had time to build out a downtown and they're pushing so hard on the people that they're gonna revitalize it with these new urban renewal and mixed use projects. Get rid of the race track and the noisy, reckless race culture of nearby residents and then you might stand a decent chance of attracting the kind of people that would support a revitalized and energetic downtown.

That entire is going to continue to explode as more and more people flee California. You can count on it. I have relatives that work for the Nampa Police and they currently have about 135 officers with a population of 106K. They expect to hire another 100 in the next 2-3 years so I'm guessing they are expecting a massive population bump.

As a former police officer myself in Souther California, don't believe everything you read about crime stats. Some cities vastly under-report and other cities do the opposite, not to mention what is considered a "violent" crime is sometimes silly and can blow the stats thru the roof.

I spoke to the city and the city said Karcher Mall is a possible site for Boise Co-Op, but said they had no concrete evidence. The city said Trader Joe's said that the average income between Nampa and Caldwell was not high enough for Trader Joe's and when they considered the Meridian location, Eagle was put into consideration because of their higher income.

Really what needs to happen if Nampa doesn't meet the income requirement for TJ's, then hope for Aldi's to move to Idaho. I think I'm stubborn enough to shop local and wait for TJ's vs driving to Meridian for it.

Looking at Sprout's, they don't list any high income requirements:

Site Criteria

  • 100,000+ population within 10 minutes
  • Approximately 30,000 square foot store size
  • Easy access with high traffic counts
  • Minimum of 140+ parking spaces
  • 150 – 180 foot store front
