To add to the Mervyns note: Mervyns is closing 26 of its stores. Boise being somewhat of an outpost store it will be closing this fall. I believe this is the first time the Boise Towne Square will be without one of it's anchors.

This is good and bad news. Mervyns was an outdated store that had its hey day in the 80's and 90's and it was such a boring store, absolutely boring. But the employees should be able to find comparable jobs because the retail scene in the Boise metro is exploding.
I rarely stepped foot into that store anyways because it always seemed to look like a cave and was dark and I hardly saw anyone in there.
mmmmmmmm, I wonder what will take its place? That is a prime, prime location in one of the largest malls in the Northwest in a city with a ton of retail potential.

I agree. I think a few years ago if this had happened somebody would jump on it right away. But with this economy who knows. I don't know how many square feet the Boise store is but I remember it being rather small. So lets say Nordstroms wanted to come into town they have an area but I'm sure they'd have to tear down the Mervyns shell and start over.

There was an article I posted on the bad economy thread in regards to Mervyns. It didn't paint a pretty picture about new stores.

Anywho, the article states the store is 87,000 square feet. Nordstroms are usually over 100,000 square feet. That is the only store I could see utilizing that space...so it may sit empty for awhile. Empty anchors aren't anything new in Californa after Macys ate up Robinsons-May although Macys is now utilizing much of the extra space in premier malls.
