He rightly gets a lot of praise for his crime novels, but the Westerns he wrote back in the '60s were excellent as well. Nearly all of them are still in print.

I started with Unknown Man #89, sometime back in the Eighties; considered City Primeval to be his finest work.

Also, Touch was a great little side-trip into an area few writers seem to deal with.

And I guess we have to thank Erich Maria Remarque who wrote 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. That was the novel that affected him the most in his younger days and set him on his writing way.

Thanks to all for the suggestions on books to start with. Not seeing a consensus, but I picked up copies of Maximum Bob and Rum Punch for now.
