Yes, but when that happens I find I need to change the venue to something of a bit more substance. Something that will feed the brain and not just entertain because life is happening so fast who needs to be entertained all the time.
Hello, I am going through that right now. I am an English teacher so I was off all summer so this is normally my time to read myself into submission. Well, that has not happened. I have all of this books loaded onto my Nook and have not really touched it. My family knows my love of reading so my FIL always purchases me a Nook gift card for Christmas. I have moved to a new location so I am feverishly looking for a job; I guess that that may have something to do with it. I love Mysteries and have a fab one that I am 'reading' about a murder in a school so I can relate, but, alas, it has not peaked my interest.
Every now and then I do. Normally I just pick up a couple of Harqulien Thrillers that I have at home & have read before. I just re-read them and that gets me back in the reading mood. That's why I keep like 20 or so of those books around. That and every now & then my mom will pick one up and read it in like a day or 2. Just a quick & easy read or 2 usually does it though.
Just discovered Stephen King's sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep is being released Sept 24th. Might be just what I need to get back into the reading game.
My dry spells of not reading tend to be more because of not making the time to do it because I'm busy with other things than lack of interest. Of course, if I was reading something I was really interested in, I'd make time for it.
Lately, I've been making a lot of time for reading. And now I need to catch up on a bazillion things around the house so I guess it's a good thing the current book hasn't totally sucked me in yet.
I really don't have dry spells. I have always read a lot and just can't be without a book.
One thing has happened in the last few years since I retired, though. After I have finished reading a particularly good book I have trouble getting into another one and will try 2 or 3 before finding that pot of gold.
1. Sometimes when I'm congested, overtired or have a new medication, I can't concentrate.
2. My nonfiction book group votes for books I don't want to read.
3. I skim the upcoming nonfiction releases and nothing appeals to me...which leads me to a question, are there book types that sell better at different times of the year? I'm wondering if like the movie industry that releases action movies in the summer because that's when kids are home from school and what the movie industry thinks are quality movies closer to the end of the year for academy award nomination time, something similar happens with book releases. Anyone know?
Yes, these happen to me-am in one such slump now, am too focused on everything else going on in life to stick with a book.
I feel guilty about it, like I'm committing a betrayal of some treasured value-because I grew up on books & reading all the time.
I still read constantly-but it's online stuff, for purely social purposes, instead of straight knowledge acquisition (such as in non-fiction books).

Thanks for reminding me^ I knew it was supposed to be out this month, but had forgotten about it by now...I'll reserve it at my local library and get on the "hold" list.
The only dry spells I have is when I can't find a book that interests me. Then I go into my collection and start re-reading. John Grisham has a new book coming out in October. Sycamore Row that takes place in Ford County with the Jake Brigance character from A Time To Kill.
