I know someone looking into a class action lawsuit against these people who took their money to join the website. Then after buying and mailing out (for free) - 30 books to other members - costing them about $60 in postage, not to mention the cost of the membership and the books themself - had their account frozen for some perceived wrong and was told if they apologized and "acted nice" PBS would consider making the freeze temporary. Sounded like real Aholes running this outfit. Meanwhile, the members they did this too - had been entitled to get 30 free books which they earned by mailing 30 free books - and were now being prevented. So they told PBS to **** themselves - they bought a service and PBS had to honor their end, but PBS refuses and says their terms say basically they can close anyone's account for any reason. A non contract type contract. Apparently this person found at least a half dozen other people they cheated like this. Feel free to DM me with your contact info if you've had this happen and want to pass your info on. I think the more people the lawyer gets to sign on - the more likely a sweet recovery.

Maybe the moral is that people shouldn't expect books to be free.

You know, if you don't actually buy books - from bookstores - the publishers get no money. If the publishers get no money, they publish fewer books. Or eventually go out of business.

A better option to me is Thiftbooks.com. Almost every book I've purchased there is $3.59 but newer titles can be a bit more. Free shipping when your order is over $10. Many of the books I've purchased have been library donations.

When I'm done with the book, I either swap with a local friend or donate to my library bookstore.

Its not free that's why when PBS cheats people and closes their account, they are stealing money.
FIrst there is a membership fee, either $12 or $20 or you pay 50 cents per swap but in order to swap or get a "free" book - you have to first send someone else a free book. So you do have to buy it - the publisher gets its money. Then you have to ship it to the other person and that cost $3 -4 or more depending on the weight of the book and PBS charges 55 cents to print the postage on top of paying for the cost of the postage. When they get it, they're supposed to mark it received so you can get a swap for your efforts. So if you send 10 books - you are supposed to get 10 books but if PBS closes your account because they didn't like something you said in a forum - you lose out on all that money. And its not cheap and its not free - it actually costs you about $4 or $5 each book you get so you really are better off just going to betterworldbooks or ebay and buying what you want.

There is a site that has good prices on older books with many sellers. It is like Amazon but independent sellers. ... Called Biblio

Often the books will be $10 or less and/ or free shipping.

There are many, many sellers.

I also want to remind people, if they don't already know... there a Little Free libraries in every state. Google little free library.

You can pick books for free, bring them back and get more. No shipping needed!
