It was a rare treat, regardless of what you thought of his opinions, to read William F. Buckley, Jr or for that matter listen to him. He died today at 82. I felt a deep sorrow as another icon of my generation passes away and takes their mirth, and intelligence with them.

I read all of his 'Blackford Oakes' spy novels - in addition to being fun reads, they improved my grammar and vocabulary (dictionary required) - great writer - great American.

And of course:

I remember watching his television program with my mom and dad.
He was so subtle, and so low key. His arched eyebrow was the only indication that he was about to verbally pounce.
Rest in peace, Mr. Buckley.

Smile Hello Ontheroad! Thanks For The Thread!

Thank You for posting this!

This is SAD

Whether you agreed with him or not, he was a gentleman with incredible

WIT, INTELLIGENCE. He was a GREAT DEBATER! An AMAZING WRITER!

It was a pleasure to read his articles, and or listen to him speak. He always stood by

what he believed in, and that is to be admired. And what a VOCABULARY! INCREDIBLE!!!

He obviously did NOT need the money, so he did everything he did

for the pure LOVE of it!!

A GREAT AMERICAN

He will be missed.

May his SOUL rest in PEACE.
