Very good series. Not your typical science-fiction fare. More of a space fantasy really. But very good stuff.

Did you know that the main character (whose name escapes me) was loosely based on Lewis's friend J.R.R. Tolkien?

Ransome. No, I didn't.

What I liked best was the imbedded critique of what I call 'modern nastiness'. In some ways, he was more prophetic than Orwell.

Agreed. You should try Chesterton some time. If you like Lewis, you might like Chesterton.
