anyone have thoughts either way? any specific suggestions?

looking to spend less than $2500 on a 1 bed, in the back bay / south end / kenmore area. hopefully not west of mass ave, and not east of gov't center.

my girlfriend and i... no kids, no pets. parking not important.

I meant classic brownstone vs. highrise building. just trying to understand the pros and cons of each.

Totally depends. But typically brownstones tend to have more "character" both in the styling and the layout. This might be good might be bad.

It really depends on the building and its amenities and who your neighbors are. Aesthetically, I prefer older buildings and generally think their construction is more sound than a lot of the newer buildings, particularly those that were slapped up in the height of the circa-2000s building boom. That said, it would be awfully handy to have a gym and pool in my building, and I did love having a doorman.
