I'll be attending a convention for a week and would like to stock up on fresh fruit for breakfast. I won't have a car but it looks like the South Boston neighborhood is within walking distance.

I used Google Maps to look around but I can't see any supermarkets in South Boston. Any recommendations on small markets in that neighborhood?

I might get a week pass for the subway for sight-seeing so I could possibly shop outside South Boston if there are better markets near a subway station.

Thanks in advance! I can't wait to feast on fresh seafood!

There's a small grocer/deli called J Pace's on Northern Ave in the Seaport, and a new grocery store called Foodies on West Broadway and C St in South Boston. Foodies will have a far better selection and prob no more than a 10 minute walk for you.

I like the small salad bar at Foodies, plus their soups are made on premises, I think.

Their mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese are rather good at the hot food counter.

I even like their tote bag for $2.99.

They have some upscale items, but not at all like Whole Foods Market. Nothing can be. But it's decent for a small local market. Doesn't seem to mobbed with shoppers.

A sign in their window says they now carry seafood, but I think you have to cook it yourself.

Stop and Shop is about a mile or less from Foodies.

Boston Sweet Tooth is a fancy bakery near Foodies.

American Provisions is near, a small upscale shop for good food. Not sure if they have lots of produce, though.

Savenor's on Beacon Hill is a stroll from the Charles/MGH red line. Upscale with a seafood counter. Nearby is Whole Foods, if you're in the area.

Haymarket next to Fanuil Hall is open on Friday and Saturday, a Boston institution. It's an outdoor market, and crowded.
