This a spinoff from a similar thread I created in the Pittsburgh forum. My question to all of you is besides New York City, what city do you consider to be Boston's biggest sports rival?

This is kind of complicated to me. I would say Baltimore might be it for Football and Baseball, although for years I hated The Angels and The Colts. For Hockey for me and all I know it is hands down Montreal. And for years it was The Lakers but any team LeBron is on seems to be the new target for C's fans. So I don't know how to answer. Wait until this year I think maybe Tampa Bay for baseball. Oh I don't know!

For what sport?

Hockey it is Montreal
Basketball it is LA
Baseball is NYC, then a big drop off
Football it was Indy during the Manning years, then the NY teams / Baltimore

Miami used to be a big rivalry in football but their team has been so bad for so long that the rivalry has faded away.

I remember "Squish the fish!"

Miami is just one of many of the shorter term rivalries that have risen and fallen over the years: Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and LA Lakers are a few others that come to mind, but for much longer, term multi-decade rivalries I don't think anything else compares to New York and Montreal.

All sports combined. If you could only pick one city other than NYC, what would it be?

I wouldn't.

But if a gun was there, Montreal as that is at least clear over time.

I'd pick Boston itself in some ways do to BU/BC hockey. Or even South Bend due to Catholic Colleges.

Or LA due to the clear Celtics rivalry.

There is no one.

I'd say Montreal.

The Heat-Celtics rivalry, and Lakers-Celtics rivalry pop up now and again, but it seems to me that the Habs-Bruins rivalry is more constant and has existed longer.

It depends on your favorite sport I'd say. Personally I say LA, but Miami and Baltimore are up there.

I have been a life long Bruins fan and don't care that much about other sports so I have a hatred of the Canadiens like no other.
