It seems MBTA doesn't run buses overnight...has there any been any talk of doing so? I know they got the T running later but if the last train is running just minutes after bars shut down, there's still a big problem!

I recently moved to the area from Montreal, where the metro closes early (by 1:30 on weekends), but buses replace trains all night. I'm now living in Somerville, and after partying "all night" (seriously, bar close by 2?? c'mon, Boston...) with the new roommates, wanted to get some food. However, all the late-night options were in Boston, and I had to catch the last train to Somerville, where there are no late-night food options. If MBTA ran some sort of late-night bus service, I could have filled my belly and still gotten home! Cabs are exensive...

As an aside, anybody know any late-night delivery spots in Camberville/Medford?

As of the present day I know of few places outside Chinatown where you can grab grub during the wee hours - unless you want to count the Harvard Square IHOP (bleccch), which when I last checked welcomed customers until 3 at least on some days. Come to think of it - Tasty Burger, at JFK and Mt Auburn St's, is also open 'til 3, and Moody's Felafel Palace in Central Square keeps those hours Thurs-Sat. As do the beloved Joseph's pizza/sub shop on the Brookline side of Mission Hill, every day, and the place at Brighton and Harvard Ave's in Allston with the seemingly rotating name (Big City? Redneck's?) Going to Chinatown doesn't mean you're limited to one type of food; the diner at Kneeland and South St's is available 24-7. And perhaps a South End resident or visitor can chime in - at least one spot is probably open around the clock for the hospital workers and medical students at BMC.
FYI also, Verna's on Mass. Ave in North Cambridge starts their business day at 5 AM (7 on Sundays.) There are always those strange times around dawn when a hit of sugar and/or caffeine is in order.

Other than Insomnia Cookies (which isn't an all-night business but IS open "later") I'm afraid you're SOL for food deliveries after about 10-11 PM.

There's only one New York City. Deal.

You can always go to 24-hour supermarkets, 24-hour groceries/convenience stores, 24-hour drug stores (CVS, Walgreens: which often have food items there, even prepared ready-to-eat foods), 24-hour service stations that have a food store attached to them, and the like.

Right, well, that's why my question of 24-hour food was just an aside....because there's no public transportation overnight, I can't go to these places, because they're not in my neighborhood!

But thanks for the suggestions...good to know for when I'm out late but not *that* late!

If you party 'til the break o' dawn, everything will be up and running again.
