Yes, the former Stop and Shop where Whole Foods Market exists now on Cambridge Street. Lived in a nasty studio on Beacon Hill on Grove Street nearby and shopped there in '83 -- when crap apartments in Beacon Hill and elsewhere were affordable.

The small plaza also featured a movie theatre (saw ET there in 1983) as well as a Boston Market.

Yeah, the Whole Foods at Charles River Plaza was a Stop & Shop in its previous life.

*Edit* bostonguy1960 beat me to it.

The former Stop and Shop parking lot at that location was a 'Boston secret'. Where one could park for hours for free by buying something in one of the stores, get the parking ticket validated. Think after 4 hours or something it was $10.
Same with the parking spaces on Commercial street, now gone, bordering the heavily 'resident only' parking North End.
There is also some other 'Boston secret' free or almost free parking places still around.

Ended up paying $40.
The T would have been about $26-30 for 2 for fees and parking. The extra time and aggravation going by the T is still free.

For the commuter rail that's a legitimate quote. The commuter rail isn't cheap.

But for rapid transit it would be $4.50 plus 6 or 7 bucks to park. So $10.5-11.5. Especially on the weekend I think that's the better option (the commuter rail isn't frequent enough on the weekends imho).

Pardon. When I hear someone say the T i assume they actually mean the T and not the commuter rail.

Definitely. Obviously traveling with multiple people adds up when you talk about T fare, but even in that case, park somewhere else in town and walk. For example, Ashburton Place garage is $10 on weekday evenings if you enter after 4pm. It's $12 all day on weekends. It's about a 10-12 minute walk to the Garden from there. Or a $5 Uber. There are dozens of garages with similar rates all around central Boston like this. If you're paying $40 to park a the garden, you're either uninformed or the $40 is worth the convenience in your eyes. But there's no way anyone is "stuck" paying that and I have little sympathy for people who are incapable of coming up with a better solution.
