This may seem obvious, but to me it is not. So far, I have been told that you have to go to the same district a crime was committed in, but what if the crime took place in multiple places (ex. stalking)? I have been inconsistently told that I have to make separate reports for each crime that took place, but what if I faced crimes almost every day from a stalker or group of stalkers?

I have tried going to the police station and I get different answers every time I go. Most recently, I was told that I had to write a letter to headquarters rather than make a police report. Also, how can I figure out who's help I need, the police, the state police, fbi, or something else?

I am aware that I have essentially zero knowledge about how law enforcement works. I would appreciate any helpful and serious advice you can offer.

Boston Police have jurisdiction of street crimes committed city wide unless on state highways or parkways. It's unclear in this post what you mean when you say that you "face crimes almost everyday." If you're the victim of an actual crime you report this to 911. An officer in the district where the crime took place will be notified to take a report from you and if needed they will refer the case to an investigator for follow up. If the alleged crime falls outside its jurisdiction they will refer you to the appropriate agency.

I’d call 911 or go to the closest police station to your house. There’s also 311.

I also have no idea what you need help with but being told to write a letter to headquarters seems ridiculous. I could see being told that if someone didn’t take you seriously
