The space itself is great, but its easy to see why relative unknowns like Backlash and Flying Embers had trouble succeeding in that location. I'm sure Long Live will do better, but unless you're relying on Uber/Lyft, it's less than ideal.
Location is actually great, keeps the waxed mustache holier than thou Cambridge crowd away. It's in a section of Roxbury known to be rather murdery meaning they're too scared to walk six feet from their Uber to the front door

I was going to say...

But their Providence location also happens to be in the middle of the ghetto, not sure if it has anything on Orchard Park but it's "there". There's housing projects close by and a few blocks from Providence's little "skid row". Lets just say that the "waxed mustache" crowd still finds its way over there.

What a dump, but I'd also be lying to say I didn't have a lot of good memories visiting there late at night or during the day. It's a part of the city that will be forever lost.

Definitely no frills! Haha

They did do somewhat of an upgrade 10-15 years ago and it didn't feel the same. Back in the day I remember there were a couple of older guys working there at night who looked like they ate a lot of pizza. They would toss the slices on to paper plates as they came out and lay them all on the counter as the line of customers would form from the door. Huge slices, cheap! Late-nights would be mostly the Landsdowne Street club crowd and Berklee students, many of whom were quite exotic back then. lol

Default Doyles and the Fireside Tavern

Both Doyles and the Fireside Tavern in JP closed, but Eugene O'Neils finally reopened in that area.

Except that it wasn't in the context of a judgement it was a descriptor, completely within the realm of endearment. Being an older guy who has eaten more than my share of pizza I'm not only quite comfortable with that descriptor, but I'm also quite certain there are many other former Little Steve's patrons who can relate to my sentiments.

A development company plans to rebuild and reopen Doyle's in 2023 as part of a larger project. Of course it won't be the same, but as I understand it they plan to install a restored version of the original bar.

They seemed to do a good business at the bar and outside during warm weather. The pretentious menu never attracted me though and neither did the prices. The article characterizes it as "classic American fare." Not sure I would call Wild Boar Bolognese, Pressed Cuban Sandwich or Wild Mushroom Gnocchi classic American fare, but if I want a Cuban sandwich I will go to a Cuban eatery. (where I probably won't pay eighteen dollars for it)
