I know DC and NYC could use my Japanese language skills, but I have not seen much for Boston. Does anyone know if there is a "hidden" or elusive demand for an American that can speak/read Japanese?

I am not sure if I want to pursue a law degree or MBA to use my Japanese skills more.

I know Boston hosts a big annual Japanese job recruitment, but I heard that was mainly for Japanese nationality.

I also miss yakisoba! Any word on good Japanese noodleshops, etc.?

Thanks for the help!

Ask John Henry for a job translating for Japanese Red Sox players (a friend of my husband's does that for the Yankees).

There's a nice japanese noodle shop at the Super 88 market in Brighton called Ken's Noodle Shop. He doesn't make yakisoba, but makes a few decent soups. It's outside the mall area, with it's own separate entrance.

i haven't found/eaten anywhere in america that makes a yakisoba (at least nothing like hometown osaka) thanks for the information though!
I'd have to study up on some baseball terms first for that position, interesting though though

You are welcome!

There are a lot of Japanese families who live in Brookline for a few years for professional reasons. There used to be a Japanese school in Boston, the Showa Institute, but I don't know if it's around anymore.

There are plenty of Japanese students in town, although judging by restaurants it seems like Japanese students are hugely outnumbered by Korean students.

There might be some kinds of job opportunities in academia, real estate, international shipping, at a consulate or something related to those communities.

I was kind of joking about the baseball job. I think that's the kind of thing you fall into by circumstance, not go seeking out. My husband's friend is an American who spent a year abroad in Japan as a student, picked up his Japanese there and found his way to that career with some stops and starts in business.

Anyway, good luck. I would be shocked if there weren't at least some small place geared towards students that doesn't serve yakisoba in either Boston or Cambridge.
