"Peewink Mountain Fire:" New blaze near Nederland forces evacuations

Quote:
Firefighters are responding to a wildland fire about three miles northeast of Nederland and have now called in for federal help. The blaze is reported on Peewink Mountain off Switzerland Park Road.

Firefighters have evacuated houses on Peewink Mountain.

The size of the fire was estimated at 10 acres just before 6 p.m., and dispatch reports are that it's “running and torching.” It's burning trees south of the Fourmile Fire burn zone, according to reports.

Other areas that have received evacuation notification messages include Cold Spring, Ridge Road and the San Anton mountain subdivisions. Just before 6 p.m., dispatch reports were that Thunder Ridge was also evacuating. Roads that are closed include Ridge Road at Colo. 72, Cold Springs Drive and Summer Access Road at Boulder Canyon Drive. . .

So good to hear from you - so wish the not so unusual September snow would fall, we could really use it. It's feeling like we're living in perpetual summer.

I saw at the last Broncos game it was over 100 on the field. Has it really been that warm out there?

Yes, been a warm, dry spell lately. Gone now, may or may not be back this year.
