How long has it been raining? Is the major concern just the areas near the creek and bodies of water or has the rain caused substantial flooding in surrounding areas as well?

I searched 9News and see they've closed CU today, a dam in Estes Park has given way and one person has been killed as a result of the flooding. Wow. What's it been like where you are?

Be safe.

Boulder Valley School District and St Vrain School District are closed. CU Boulder is closed- some flooding in dorms on campus, family housing - some evacuations. Boulder Creek has flooding. County and Cityof Boulder governments are closed - widespread flooding.

From the Daily Camera:

Boulder flood: At least 1 killed as heavy flooding continues across county

Quote:
One person has been confirmed dead as flooding continues across Boulder County following three days of heavy rain, resulting in structure collapses, mandatory evacuations, stranded drivers and mudslides across the county.

Multiple structures in Jamestown and Fourmile Canyon have collapsed or been swept away, and Boulder County officials confirmed that at least one person has been killed in Jamestown after a structure collapse.

People have been ordered to evacuate from Jamestown and Fourmile Canyon.

The Boulder Office of Emergency Management said people in the city of Boulder should stay out of the flooded streets unless they are in low-lying areas or are experiencing flooding in their home.

Boulder announced that all Pinebrook Hills residents were under a mandatory "shelter in place" order for at least the next 24 hours after all major roads washed out, and gas and electric was shut off in the area.

The University of Colorado campus also announced it will be closed Thursday, and both the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts announced they will be closed.

A dam along the St .Vrain River failed near Pinewood Springs about 2 a.m. Thursday, and emergency officials are warning that floodwaters are headed toward Lyons. Residents there have now been warned to go to higher ground.

Residents of Fourmile Canyon were told Wednesday night to seek higher ground. . .

Here in Louisville, we have received 9" in our backyard in the past ~ 48 hours. We are safe, living on top of a hill.

The highway at the intersection of 287 & Dillon - around the Lafayette/Broomfield border, has collapsed, cars are in the water - all people in the cars are okay.

I'm actually in the Seattle airport right noe in route to Denver & watching the news. Very scary! Hope everyone stays safe.

Thinking about this reminds me of the flooding in Fort Collins in 1997 or 98. I was going to CSU & our basement flooded. It was pretty intense.

Boulder flood: 2nd death confirmed as heavy flooding continues across county

At the end of the article:

Quote:
. . .Much of Boulder County is under a flash flood warning through 10 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, as is northeastern Broomfield County and northeastern Weld County.

After 2:30 a.m., the Boulder Office of Emergency Management updated the list of roads closed: Boulder Canyon at the mouth to the west; Colo. 66 from North Foothills Highway to Lyons; 63rd/61st streets from Jay Road to Valmont Road; U.S. 36 from Lyons into Larimer County; Baseline Road from Chautauqua Park to Flagstaff; Linden Road from Broadway west; Lefthand Canyon from Foothills Highway to Peak to Peak Highway; Sugarloaf Road at the 600 Block; Lefthand Canyon Road at Lee Hill; Four Mile Canyon from Boulder Canyon to Poorman; Gold Run at Dixon; Four Mile Canyon at Boulder Canyon to North of Boulder Canyon; Coal Creek Canyon Drive and Colo. 93; Erie Parkway from Briggs to Weld County Rd No. 7; Old Tale Road from McSorley Drive; South Boulder Road from Cherryvale road to 76th Street.

Boulder has long ranked as one of the state's top flood hazards and made a national list of six "disasters waiting to happen" published by CU in 2004, along with a devastating hurricane striking New Orleans.

Without a 100-year flood since 1894, the city's Web site has said another major flood is "a question of when and not if."
