Lol, the first and last paragraphs I took away as funny and curious respectively. The Pearl Parkway project seems to be expanding Pearl Street a bit north as the sidewalks and bikeways are moving the road a bit north. I just noticed they changed the lanes last week.

I'm wondering how the bus terminal will look underground because they've already started digging in the adjacent area from the apartment complexes.

Living in Boulder has been described as existing in a bubble removed from reality inhabited by eclectic people who eat granola and tofu. We have been called the "Republic of Boulder" isolated from .... The so-called bubble with its known advantages coupled with augmented human services could become a model of social justice worthy of national recognition.

I think the culture is evolving because of all the people moving in. A lot of the people are connected to the start ups and Silicon Valley, and they are having a big impact on the Boulder lifestyle.

Also, I think the group that led the change in the 60's and 70's has moved on and that vacuum is being filled.

I would agree with Brown Dog. It's a process that began a long time ago and has continued to accelerate. There's still plenty of weird in Boulder though. You just have to dig a little to find it.

Your last sentence in particular is well said. The same is true of SFO, which rests on its image of a time when it was noted for its activity and lifestyle, change, etc. Today, you find remnants in both Boulder and SFO, and other regions, too, of that change...but it's in the form of people 'wearing the costume', rather than embodying it. There's quite a lot of 'team spirit' these days in the US...Everyone's got their package or program; most of it is not backed up by substance of any kind, however. Image and hype, mainly. That said, I still find Boulder to be a great place with a lot of offer. And SFO is a gorgeous city.
