Looks like my husband is going to be taking a job in Lafayette, Co. We were told that we should look at moving into the Firestone, Frederick, and Erie locations for the best places. My concern is our family is diverse and it doesn't look like those areas are diverse. We are Caucasian and our children are African-American. We want our children to be comfortable in the area, will this be a problem? Any suggestions?

I would suggest looking first right in Lafayette. It is a diverse community, though mainly white and Hispanic. There are not lots of African-Americans in Colorado, even in Denver. But there are enough that your kids won't stick out like "sore thumbs".

Thank you for the info. We were told by others not to stay in Lafayette or Longmont due to gangs. Our children are 6 and 1. Are there any blacks in the Firestone area? Are they accepting of diverse families? We will be visiting the area this coming week to check things out. Anything we should be aware of? How about schools?

I can't imagine who told you about "gangs" in Lafayette. I live in the town just to the west, Louisville, and I am unfamiliar with that. Lafayette is a rather small place for gang activity. I doubt there's much of a gang problem in Longmont, either, even though it's larger. I don't know much about Firestone. It's in the St. Vrain SD. Lafayette is in the Boulder Valley SD. Both are good districts. BVSD schools tend to have higher test scores.

Again, thanks for the info. We will let the realtor know what we need and are looking for. Schools are very important to us, as well as a diverse neighborhood.

Just FYI: our pastor and his family including 6 yr old son just moved to Lafayette. I honestly think Lafayette is safe, and probably way more diverse than Frederick, Fireston and/or Erie. You can check stats on city-data.

Default Anyone from Firestone CO

My husband and I are looking at moving into Firestone with our 2 children and wondering if anyone lives in Oak Meadow Subdivision and knows the area? Is this a good place? Looks nice from our recent visit but can't find any real information out about the place.

Hi harpseals, my husband and I moved into Oak Meadows at the beginning of June, and I can't say enough good things about it. Our neighbors have been so friendly and welcoming, and it is a terrific neighborhood for families. Kids are always outside playing and riding bikes, with the parents watching from their front porches. It's also surprisingly quiet and in a great location. My husband and I both work in Boulder, which is only 30 minutes away if traffic is light. There is also a park at the north end of the neighborhood which has a dog park, basketball and tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a skate park and a playgroud. Not to mention the home prices are extremely affordable.

Hi - I (with wife & kids) live in Firestone. And while I have to admit I don't see as much diversity as I would like (we are white, but come from Ca... like just about everyone it seems). I also don't think that anyone actually cares. There are some I'm sure, but everyone for the most part is pretty laid back.

I really doubt you'll have much problems out here. The crime rate is very low out here, they are building the largest library in the county (might even be the state) out here and all kinds of other stuff going in.

I would recommend the area to just about anyone.

.

Maybe Weld County. The state? I don't think so. Check out (no pun intended) the Denver Public Library next time you're there.
