Broomfield is nice, the commute to downtown is about 40 - 45 minutes during rush hour, it does offer easy access to I-25 and 36 depending on where you live. Broomfield average price is higher than the surrounding neighborhoods because of it's family/friendly safety reputation.

I live in Thornton there are some parts that aren't so great, but there are some of these in Broomfield too. If you stay north of 128th Avenue, those are newer neighborhoods that have a great reputation as being family-friendly, good schools, lots of parks and trails. Most neighborhoods offer easy access to I-25 or you can take the back roads and jump on I-70 to miss the congestion that tends to happen on I-25 between 120th Avenue and 84th Avenue.

You are going to get more for your money in Thornton than you will in Broomfield.

Frederick and Firestone are both growing quickly. I know many families that live in these communities and love them. Dacono is the same and another one you may want to consider. Dacono actually has a quaint little downtown area with a great BBQ place and some other nice shops.

They are more affordable because they are growing communities so sometimes lack some of those things that more established towns have.

You can easily get to Longmont in 10 - 15 minutes, out to Boulder, up to Ft Collins, down to Denver which is nice.

There are grocery stores, breweries, restaurants and things like that popping up in both of these communities.

They also do movies in the park during the summer and lots of fun festivals, I think they are great family-friendly communities and with Longmont right there, there is plenty to do for everyone.

As for the commute, it could be rough out to Englewood. I would say at least 1.5 hours in rush hour.
