Hi Everyone,

My fiance and I are moving from CT to Boulder Mid August. We are so excited!!! Heard so many great things about the place, the restaurants, the weather (although I do enjoy winter) and specially the people. I live in CT from 10 year, I am originally from Brazil, and can't wait to meet some friendly folks. On the other hand, I was warned to eat as much bread as I can before I leave...

We are looking for a nice 1 -2 bedroom apartment to rent in a quieter neighborhood (heard the hill is too loud) ranging from $700 to $850. We would prefer to rent from a private owner! Can't make sense in my head of all the extra fees and pet rent that manag. companies charge. Also read nightmare reviews online.

We are fostering a very sweet 1 1/2 yr old cat that might be coming along with us. I called the shelter to inform them of our moving plans and, of course, they never got back to me. On the other hand, I feel terrible giving him away! He was abandoned before for two weeks with no food or water inside an apartment. Now he is so attached to us, and we love him so much.

I would appreciate any help you can give me! Can't take searching craigslist for hours every day any longer! I tried the daily camera also, but most of apartments listed there are not from private owner.

Thanks everyone, hope to hear from you soon!

$700-$800 will be a difficult price to find a good rental in Boulder.
There is probably student housing in those prices. I think some rentals on Canyon run cheaper. It won't be a private landlord though. The thing is a private landlord probably has a house or private piece of property he/she has bought and is renting and that private place probably cost quite a bit-not anywhere near what can be rented for $700. I don't know good rentals in Longmont or Louisville for $700 either. A rental in Boulder county is more around 1200-1500 for average and about 2000 downtown or a good neighborhood. Adjust your expectations. The reason you've been searching Craigslist and not coming up with anything is that what you want does not exist.
Biggest rental agency in town which most private landlords use is Housing Helpers.

Hi Mark, thank you for your reply. Actually, I did find many places in Boulder around that price range, but the transaction itself was difficult, many landlords preferred to rent to someone they had met in person (and I totally understand their concerns). Finally, after months of search and many emails/ phone calls later I found a place to rent at a complex in South Boulder, its also private owned, what makes me very happy! I tried housing helpers and they weren't very helpful to me, but on the other hand I heard great thing about them...Probably the person that was working with me was not one of their best associates. Thank you for your reply.

Don't get rid of your cat!

We moved from GA/TN to Lafayette (near Boulder) and found a townhouse on Craigslist for $1450.
Obviously that's a lot more than you were looking for, but considering we have 7 cats (all but one is a stray we rescued living in the south) we REALLY lucked out!
We live in a pretty nice area near Waneka Lake (can walk to the trail) and our neighbor watches our cats when we go backpacking (I mow her lawn in exchange).
We love the Boulder Area and are glad we made the move.
Now if I could just find a job!
