I was born and raised in Cocoa Beach, and am considered to be a Local. Be prepared for:
1. Non stop humidity and heat. There are no seasons here, just hot spring, hot summer, hot fall, and 2 weeks of cool weather in December/January. Make sure your place has an A/C that works well.
2. Bugs. Roaches as big as house cats, and you can't stop them from getting in. If you have a pet, it will have fleas. And lizards scamper around your feet as you walk.
3. People. People here can be very disappointing. Except for while you're at work, you are going to encounter many low-lifes here. People with no ambition except to find the "best wave," or the "best weed." Surfers are usually just beach bums with a hobby. Most of the women around your age have tatoos, are big "partiers," and can be of questionable moral integrity, so be aware. VERY few professionals here.

on the other hand,

1. You will never have to shovel snow here.
2. You will never have to buy a coat here.
3. There are many public libraries, so you can check out books to read because there's nothing else to do, and too hot to go outside.

Yeah, it's not like you're a half hour away from a major airport or less than an hour away from Disney/universal/I-drive or anything. And, please ignore mentioning cocoa village

Hopefully the OP can afford to take a flight somewhere, or go to Disney/Universal, or go shopping on IDrive, or spend money in Cocoa Village. Those are activities that I cannot afford. So no, I wouldn't mention them.

Check the title....he did mention he was a young professional so probably will make enough to live and still have money to do things. My son has owned a house since he was 28 and so do all of his surfer friends who also are professionals. They go to Magic Games by buying tickets from one site-maybe stub hub? - for $20 or less a lot of the time. You buy annual passes on the monthly plans and it makes it easier to afford the theme parks. My guys don't drink a lot so they don't head to the bar scene except for birthdays or bachelor parties and then usually get limos(chip in to buy) for the night so no one drinks and drives. They even do the rent Typhoon Lagoon a few nights a year to surf after hours in the wave pool.

But even if you don't make a lot of money there are lots of festivals and things that you can do around here that you can do for free or very little out of pocket.
