My husband got out of the Army 3 years ago after doing 20 years Active Duty, he was promised a good job in New York so we moved here, well we are tired of the high taxes and freezing cold long winters, he is originally from Melbourne but has not lived there in 24 years so we practically have no idea what the same areas are any more and what good apartments there are. We do not need to worry about schools, and we would like to stay around 1150 or month less for rent. Safety is our main concern.
Can anyone give us some info please, thank you.

Congrats on your retirement. I'm looking at retiring from the AF after 25 years next year and we are wanting to move to FL and are looking at the Melbourne area as well. We've never lived in FL but both of our kids are out of the house and we think we will enjoy it. How was your transition to civilian life? If you end up moving there, please update on how you like it!

Mike

Brevard County is a great area. Living Beachside (Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral & Titusville) is wonderful for the access to the beach and the laid back lifestyle. You do pay more for less rent wise though. 1150 is possible in Cape Canaveral and if you get lucky in some other areas. People seems to really love West Melbourne and the Viera area as well and you'll probably get a little nicer place. Good luck!

Titusville is not beachside and the access to the beach is actually limited because of the Kennedy Space Center being beachside there. Playalinda(National Seashore) has basically 1 road for people to get to the beach on space center property. It is a beautiful area but there is a charge to get to it. There is no water on site, pot-a-potties, and no food to be purchased at the beach or close to it.

To the air force retiree, you might want to check on locations close or at Patrick Air Force base.

I don't really consider Titusville beachside either, but I know others do
