They are very popular on the west coast of Florida but not the east coast.

I've seen them all along the coast of South Carolina.

Pretty much every pool has an enclosure along Florida’s East Coast.

Lived there for many years (Melbourne / Viera / Cocoa Beach areas) and every pool had one. Mosquitos, gnats and bugs in general would eat you alive year round if you didn’t. A minority may have not had a “bird cage” as they tend to be called, but I’d say 9/10 did.

Coastal areas heading north out of Florida tend to have them too, although the numbers start to decrease significantly as seasons and snowfall come into play.

Here in the TN mountains most pools are wide open, but also are only used for 6 months of the year or are fully enclosed / indoors and heated if you have the $$$ to do so. Same goes for the lower elevation areas of TN too.

Screened pools don't get as stupidly hot in the summer.

They are few and far in between south of Stuart. Some clusters in Delray/Boca/Hillsboro but a rarity south of there.

I think you mean mid East Coast.

Many, maybe most, homes in Weston have screened pools.

I think it also matters how much you sit outside and at what time of the day. Spending time at dusk relaxing outside will surely drive you nuts without a screened in area where I am in canal front in Merritt Island, especially in warmer seasons. If you don't have one and are not bothered, then don't put one up. It really is that simple. If one exists already, then you have a bonus. Clearly there are areas where it is not a nuisance so then it is not needed.
