In NY, the 5 boroughs of NYC go into phase 2 today I believe. That means barber shops and nail solons open as well was inside retail, outside seating at retaurants and more office workers. We in Long Island have been in phase 2 for a over a week and should be going into phase 3 very soon. So we will have 50% inside dining and most office workers will be able to go back to work. We still need to wear masks if being closer than 6 feet apart, so we are quite used to that. NJ and CT are following at the same pace. So we are getting back very rapidly now in the NE.
Our plan is to stay at our time share most of the time with a few visits to some restaurants (be it inside or outside or some takeout). We did book a party fishing trip out of Port Canaveral but will be asking questions before going on social distancing and booking capacities. We plan to go to less populated sections of the beach and I have my real estate checks at my soon to be empty house and some outside drive bys. Maybe a few trips to Home Depot and Walmart to pick up supplies and hopefully more wipes which are still difficult to get here in NY.
We are the ones fearful of Florida now. There are so few cases in NY, it doesn't make the news anymore unless buried someplace mid way through the broadcast. After staying safe and practicing social distancing for nearly 4 months, we really thought going to Florida would be easy and safe by now. So much changed in the last couple of weeks down there, it makes us uneasy now. Yet we are trying to push forward as tickets and items booked, some non refundable.

NYpafl4u - I think travelers into the state from NY are still required to quarantine for 14 days. Might want to see if that is still in effect too.

PA's new case rates have dropped significantly too, so we are worried about being down there, but we need to check on the condo.

I started a thread on TripAdvisor and some of the DEs who live in there area are chiming in with helpful tips. But Lysol and wipes are as scarce there as here.

I believe self quarantine is only an issue if you show signs or have a temperature. If someone at the airport says something, I have not heard of anyone being escorted to some holding place. You are free to go. At least I do have a house down there that will be vacant soon, so I could use that address.
Florida doesn't even enforce wearing a mask in most places. So how can they track you when you get off a plane? I am so used to it, that won't be an issue.
I am more concerned that others around us won't be wearing masks and potentially spreading what we in NY tried so hard to contain.

Nypafl4u, I don't think they are enforcing anything like Hawaii is, but as far as I know, the self quarantine order is still in effect.

And now NY is considering a quarantine for those traveling from FL because of the spike in cases there.

I know about NY considering it. I can totally understand if they do. Considering my job requires it if I travel anywhere on a plane, I have to self quarantine. I am used to it as I said. This would be our first trip anywhere on a plane in about 6 months. Things are different and likely will be for the foreseeable future.
I am in contact with several people in Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island so we will proceed with caution and make the final decision 24 hours before the planned trip.
I heard about the outbreak at the Hooters in Melbourne. Who knows how many people that effected.
I wish the state would mandate face masks if going out in public. It does seem to work, minimizing potential droplets from hitting you by others near by. It's easy, cheap, and considerate.

So I was able to get a bit more clarity on the travel and quarantine part. Yes Florida on record still requires you to self -quarantine for 14 days if you enter from a known "hot spot" state such as NY, NJ or CT (which in reality, we no longer are even map worthy for Covid). If flying into MCO in Orlando, they will have you fill out a form indicating your intent while in Florida and where you plan to stay (not sure what else). That is it. I spoke with a rep from Jet Blue and she said there is no issue flying back (assuming you show no symptoms of being sick) if staying for less than 14 days, which was a concern since our own trip is only for 5 days and we did not want to be stuck, unable to travel back home. She did say some airports are requiring some kind of gps tracker, which I assume is loaded on your phone, but not Orlando at this point. I am not thrilled about a tracker in any case, but that is a conversation for another blog.
For now at least, there is no real way they can enforce the self-quarentine when in Florida but we plan to keep to a small circle in the area we are staying at and will be wearing our masks when going to a store or place to eat.
Hope this helps any potential travelers flying to Florida. Do check with your specific airline in any case as they may have their own rules when entering or leaving certain states. I am sure these rules will change over time as the virus continues to rise and fall.

Be aware that Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral among other areas in Brevard are experiencing a big spike in confirmed cases right now. Very little mask wearing going on and everyone is acting like the virus has gone away when in fact it is spreading faster than it was back when we were being careful. If I didn't live here I sure wouldn't be traveling here.

1insider, I have been watching the cases rise by the day in Cocoa Beach. Thanks for the warning.

We are flying down in 1 week and will be keeping our distance from everyone. We will be masked and armed with hand sanitizer and Lysol spray, and may even use InstaCart or whatever the shopping company is for Winn Dixie and Publix since we won't have a vehicle anyway.

New record for Brevard again today......104 and 5,508 for state since yesterdays report. Deaths still at 17 and Health First says OK on beds and equipment in this area.

Instacart does a great job. Our shopper texted me about 20 times with out of stock can I substitute while she shopped. She bought everything on my list. If you have never used them, they will hold more than the actual amount spent just in case it ends up costing more. Some of the substitutes were twice as much, but you could say no to them.

Curios, how do you bring Lysol spray if flying? Can't bring aerosol cans on board or in checked luggage. We had a friend pick us up a can so when we get to Cocoa Beach we will be prepared. We are packing Clorox wipes to ensure rental car is OK.
We will make final decision tomorrow but we are leaning to going. We now must self quarantine for 14 days when we come back as our governor in NY just put that into effect at midnight tonight. NY, NJ and CT all are requiring now if coming from Fl. As well as several other high Covid states.
