So in the near future I'm going end up arriving in Buffalo in the afternoon and departing the next afternoon. Because of an accidental mouse click when bidding on hotels I ended up with a hotel out by the airport instead of a hotel in the downtown area which is what I was going for.

I was kinda hoping for a downtown spot because I was planning on going to see a band at Town Ballroom the night I'm going be in Buffalo. Since I won't have transportation I looked at the bus system and it doesn't seem too horribly complex and since Google Map has the routes it seems pretty convenient. That said I have two questions:

1) How are the bus routes late at night? I figure I have an 80-85% chance that the show gets out in time for me to catch the second to last or last bus.

2) In the situation that I'm not able to catch a bus, how is the taxi service in Buffalo? From what I read it sounds like I'd have to call for a pickup, so if anyone has any recommendation in case I do need a taxi I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I know that you should probably have no problem finding bus routes between downtown and the airport. If it's late at night, just be more cautious, because it's going to be more deserted downtown (especially if you'll be there on a Sun-Wed night).

If you'll be taking a taxi, Liberty Cab is the most common company. Just go to their website and get the phone number, because you will need to call them and tell them where/when you'll need a ride. Hope this helps!

Definitely helps. I think I've become comfortable enough with the idea of using the bus system as my main option and calling a taxi as my backup. So I'll just put Liberty Cab's number in my phone as a just in case.

Airport Taxi is very good and based near ( surprise) the airport. Easier to get them than an in city company. Anything can be gotten from the city out.

Why not ask the hotel if the shuttle goes downtown? Some will do it for the cost of a cab at off times.

If I were you, I would take the free shuttle from the airport to your hotel (I'm assuming your hotels offers this), rent a car from Enterprise for the 24 hours that you will be here. Don't rent from the Enterprise at the airport (always expensive), rent from one closest to your hotel and find a 10 percent discount coupon code (Entertainment books have one. Enterprise employee will then pick you up at your hotel and bring to you get your car. Then they will most likely let you drop off the car free of charge at the Buffalo airport. I've done this a few times before I moved here. I was staying at the Millenium hotel near the Galleria Mall, which is also considered a hotel close to the airport on Priceline. Good luck. Karen

I wouldn't count on making use of the bus for two reasons. One is, you might have to wait 45 minutes or so for a bus at that hour. The other reason is that when I used to go to shows at the Town Ballroom (and even back when it was called the Sphere) they would always start really far after the posted time. This was so consistent I figured they did it on purpose to sell more beer, or something. So don't be surprised if the show gets out after the last bus to the airport has already passed.

I'm starting to sound like a real negative nancy but cabs aren't too reliable in Buffalo either, even when you order ahead.
