I remember when they opened up a Trader Joes in Cary when we still lived down in NC and people raved about it. Went in there and was really underwhelmed. It has some interesting organic food choices (yes, cheap wine, but remember we still can't buy that at grocery stores in this state), and some high-end hard to find cooking ingredients. Pretty much everything else was overpriced with very little selection.

As cliche and stereotypical "WNY'er" of me it is to say this; it really isn't impressive when compared to Wegmans.

Trader Joes is overrated, especially if you know how to cook. I'd take Wegmans over TJ's anyday.

I do love shopping at Trader Joes, but agree that Wegman's specialty offerings are just as good ...

Another chain store didn't come to our area? Oh heavens what are we going to do!? (sarcasm)

Rochester can keep it.

If you believe the hype you will be disappointed.

Think of Trader Joes as a nice, very good neighborhood grocery store and you will be fine. Since they are all over California you accept them for what they are.

I still doi most of my grocery shopping there. Excellent meats. Unique foods. Good Wine selection. Best Store bought French Vanilla Ice cream in the world, and very inexpensive.

But you don't have Wegman's in CA.

We have all of that, except the wine.

Wegman's is one of the things I really miss since I moved to San Antonio. The only game in town is HEB or Walmart. I have sent emails to Wegman's requesting they consider TX because I miss them so! I was part of a focus group for HEB in April and I asked the panel of factfinders if they were familiar with Wegman's and they looked at each other and reluctantly said yes. I said there is no greater shopping experience, IMHO, than Wegman's, take a lesson and learn from them.

I feel for you, HEB is awful once you experience a Wegmans (though they are better than the King Soopers we had in Colorado).
