If you don't mind the cold and this is your dream job with good pay I'd say go for it. Plus, if you really want to be a homeowner on 1 income it shouldn't be an issue in that area. Go luck on the interview!

Another thing, a few years ago the region successfully testified that the Ice Boom, used to keep ice from the intakes for the hydro plant deferred summer by 3 days.
When I was still working and interviewing people I would get folks from Aspen, Hawaii, San Diego and other places with fabulous weather and I would invariably ask them "why are you moving here". 99.999% said it was for family. I sincerely doubt the OP would like Buffalo after SoCal. One winter and they would be on the first plane back.

Cost of living and a job you want are pretty good factors. Central coast has a lot of natural beauty, but its cost of living versus jobs available are pretty bad and that holds true for a lot of traditionally desirable places. Then filter it out with the probability of getting a job that you really actually want.
