The bolded is the point of Say Yes to Education in terms of allowing for HS graduates to go to college or other post secondary education. What his school is doing is what Say Yes is doing for students with participating colleges. So, it is the same or a similar concept in terms of increasing educational opportunity, with both minimizing or removing debt to do so(inc. a scholarship for the Golisano Institute) and includes community related partnerships. This is why it is odd that one pathway is getting criticism and the other is praised(likely due to where it is located).

Wow, you really make the phase tell a lie until it "becomes true" come to life.

Looking at the list of private "donors", don't forget that they got that money from a non involved citizen in the form of higher prices at their establishment.

I realize your goal is universal income and everyone is "equal".

If not, then why would you want so many people dependent, and not FREE? Needing help, every step of their life. Sad.

What are you talking about? You are responding to the wrong post or are really reaching. How do you think Golisano got his money?

Seriously, are you OK?

What is more ironic is that Say Yes has more stringent criteria than Golisano in terms of having to live/attend school in the district for a certain amount of time, having to graduate, having to get accepted into a participating college and having income aspects to consider versus just having the money to pay for attendance and perhaps a diploma/GED. So, there is no "free" lunch either way.

I feel the same way. Maybe you should study economics and taxes and understand how things work in the REAL WORLD. Not a world that subsidizes everything. This thing you are promoting is just the RESULT of the same kind of thinking.

Funny, how things were not to many years ago, compared to now. Not to mention, most of my friends never went to college in the first place, and turned out fine.

Fortunately people are waking up to the fact that college is a scam, unless you are studying to become a doctor or engineer. It's always been about the person working hard and smart, not some useless piece of paper.

I totally understand economics and taxes, but you aren't even on topic, nor have you read up on what Say Yes is about. Reading comprehension is important to understand what this is about, but you already started off on the wrong foot and keep bringing up things that don't have anything to do with the organization and its aim.

This isn't about what you or your friends did, as things have changed and some form of post secondary education is largely necessary nowadays. The days of just looking for some good paying manufacturing job with a willingness to work like in the past isn't around as much anymore(I've many times stated that manufacturing employment peaked in 1979 in the US).

Even the manufacturing that is growing in Upstate NY is Advanced Manufacturing, which requires some form of technical education/training outside of the K-12 system, unless it is a program like P-Tech or a Early Middle College sort of program(Buffalo's Early Middle College requires 5 years, but offers 4 years for more advanced students and they can get an associates from ECC when they graduate). So, to be so dismissive seems to show a lack of acknowledgment of the changes in the workforce. Let alone if a kid wants to go into a field where going to college is necessary.

Again, this is about an opportunity to go to post secondary education with help from the organization, which by the way, the student doesn't have to use it. I know of people that sent their children through the Syracuse City SD that didn't use it due to either going into the military or used other programs like On Point for College, which is another voluntary organization that helps kids with select services related to college. So, there is a choice involved as well.

^ Get up in the morning. Shower, shave and be on your way. No need to make it so complicated, and EXPENSIVE.

One thing I can guarantee by using this program---- There will be another government program along soon to make things even better.

Don't forget what Margaret Thatcher once said. "Socialism is great, until you run out of other people's money."

Just keep on ignoring the real problem, and throwing other people's money at it. It's worked so well in the past.

Give it a rest, man. I've served the country, while you haven't and I have a good job. That doesn't make me better, but get over yourself and your assumptions/arrogance.

You just don't know what the organization is about and leave it at that.

A private non profit organization that offers a last dollar scholarship is not socialism. Lord have mercy, if that is what you are getting out of this. If so, then this is just a waste of time. Especially since you are contradicting yourself in terms of giving attention to an institute that is doing the same thing by offering an opportunity through post secondary education at a lower cost, including a scholarship.
