Does he have working papers? Do they still require them? I admire any kid willing to get out there and work. Can he do the register at any fast food resturants? I worked at Mc Donalds when I was 16.

he should have working papers and if he doesnt, he can get them through his guidance office at school pronto before school ends.

Has he followed up with a phone call / visit to the places that he applied ? Thats pretty important. Has he put a flyer out about cutting lawns? I find in the summer people will pay in the burbs $20 bucks a lawn - now thats a good paying job for a 16 year old - if you cut 5 lawns a week - thats $100 bucks off the books, no tax for less than 10 hours worth of work. What about the malls? Lots of stores need people during the day hours. What burb are you in? I do a seasonal gig in the fall and will be looking for people 16 and older if hes a hard worker and close to where I do that gig, but thats not till the fall.

I agree with mcdonalds and burger king and all those fast food places - those look awesome on a resume' because people know how hard it really is to work there.

I was driving to Target yesterday and noticed a sign that Lasertron (not sure if that's the right name) on Maple and Bailey was looking for help with their outdoor go-kart course for the Summer and paying $10.25 an hour.

You have to be 18 to operate many machines in restaurants/grocery stores, etc..

When I was 16 I worked at Ted's Hot Dogs.

Plenty of cleaning tables, toilets, sweeping floors, and pouring sodas.

I think I made $4.05 per hour when I first started there, haha.

Plenty of young kids work there, its a good place to meet some people and get a few bucks in your wallet.

Try looking at a nursing home. I've worked at Elderwood for over a year as a waitress and not only are the hours great (evenings; 4-7:30) but the pay is above minimum wage. If your son doesn't want to wait on the residents, they also hire dishwashers. If thats not at interest, fast food resturants are always hiring. My first job was at Arbys and it was a great learning experience.

The key thing is that almost no 16 year olds have any experience, HR people understand, as long as he seems reasonably smart he should get a job fairly east, but there is a good chance it will be food service.

It's hard for a kid to find a job this time of year, as every kid is looking for a summer job. Has he tried the mall? Any mall would probably be ideal because most stores cater to kids/teenagers. Video games & music comes to mind. Good luck.

I remember for high school, everyone applies at the video game stores. If your son doesn't mind physical labor, the landscapers with ALWAYS take someone.
