I just moved to Vt. I work in the chemical industry and it took me 4 years of sincere job hunting to find a job and move here. As far as hockey goes, I also love to play back in NY I would play pick up or league 5-6 days a week. I sent the local league an email which has pretty much been ignored now for 2 weeks....great way to run a business.

Pretty lame. When I've reached out to groups in Vermont, there isn't always someone answering emails, at least not promptly. You might want to try calling if you can.

OP-

It's expensive here. I wouldn't have moved here unless myself and DH had jobs already lined up.

I love it here in Burlington, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. It's just not really value for money at the end of the day for most people, and there are too many college kids, and grads that stay around and not enough jobs for all of them.

There are definitely cheaper places for hockey fans. Lake Placid might be a good fit. Or try across the lake in Plattsburgh and then you can go to Montreal or Burlington whenever you want.

I will however disagree with PP that said there's a lot of crime, drugs and gangs here. I work in the ER at my hospital frequently and I haven't seen a stabbing or a shooting (that wasnt self inflicted) since I got here a year ago.
Compare that to 3-4 a weekend down in LI, NY. There aren't enough immigrants here to form ethnic gangs like MS13 etc. I would say the biggest social problem here is homelessness, mental health, poverty and alcoholism. Some prescription drug abuse too. But *nothing* like you will see other places.
