Thanks for correcting me.

Try some of the cities out in the midwest and tell me life is great. Gary, IN... Detroit... The smaller cities in western PA, etc. Then there are the places in the south that are not only full of unemployment, but also have serious natural disasters. New Orleans still hasn't bounced back from an even that happened 5 years ago. You make it seems like it's impossible to get by in VT, but the situation isn't as bad as you make it out to seem when you compare it to some of these other places.

As far as the midwest goes, try Indiana as a possible place to check out. I can't recall the few states that have done well in the recession, but Indiana is one of them. Decent incomes, low cost of living and a very high quality of life. Indiana has managed to keep a balanced budget which equates to tax stability. Just as Burlington is not the whole state of Vermont, Gary is not all of Indiana.

Iowa City. College town like Vermont. Very nice place. Indiana has a 12% unemployment rate and Iowa's is half that.

Bickle is just depressed because the quality of life in Burlington has declined dramatically in recent years.

I have a friend in Vermont who has an extensive radio background who is doing exactly that: waiting tables.
