Not from the Burlington area, but we're looking at returning to the North Country and snow after being away for awhile.

Based on looking at the school situations for the family we're considering homes in the Essex, Shelburne, South Burlington, and surrounding areas.

Work would be in the South Burlington area. We would not rule out rural or suburban/subdivision. Quite honestly we would love something quasi rural with a 15-20 minute commute to South Burlington (doesn't everyone?).

The point of the post: Google Maps and the like do an 'ok' job of indicating commute times, but we all know there's variables involved. What are the 'real' commute times to South Burlington area from places like Essex Jct, Jericho, Williston, Hinesburg, Shelburne, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Shelburne - anywhere from 5-15 minutes depending on where in Shelburne you are
Hinesburg - anywhere from 10-25 minutes depending on where in Hinesburg you are
(and where in S. Burl you are going)

most of the towns would probably be 10-20 minutes. Average of 15. Jericho would be longer

It also depends on when you commute. I'm usually on the roads from ~7:30-8:15 and its horrible because there are buses everywhere and many routes are basically clogged shut because of people dropping their kids off at school. For instance, driving through 5 corners coming from the Richmond direction is just ridiculous at ~7:50 AM.

On snow days despite by slower speed I often get to work earlier than usual because there are no buses and normally unusable routes are open to me.

I'd leave even earlier to avoid all this but my wife has a set schedule and we carpool.
