Is there a Mexican grocery store in Burlington, or at least an ethnic grocery that offers Mexican items.

I'm happy to report that there is finally a good mexican restaurant in Burlington - El Gato on South Church Street. So good that I went there twice last week. It was pretty crowded during typically slow days, so I might avoid on Friday and Saturday nights.

So good.

El Gato? That means The Cat. I hope that's not what they serve!

The one we had in Middlebury was great, I miss it for sure.

The new craze for Mexican food is Don Pedro's Authentic Mexican Taqueria in Winoski that opened recently. There are some mixed reviews on it mainly due to the fact they just opened and have been working things out. Its good Mexican for VT standards but I have had much better Mexican out west in CA. It appears to not even be owned by Mexicans. Still good though.

I agree that "El Gato" is great mexican restaurant and a great addition to Burlington eateries!

There is no real Mexican food in Vermont. I have tried everywhere and it all pales in comparison to authentic. Seriously, i miss the tamale trucks in Fresno.

I agree, we have tried and tried to find a good place and have not. I guess it's like finding a great cheddar cheese in New Mexico or fresh caught lobster in Iowa.

The Mad Taco is very good, very authentic. The original in Waitsfield is mainly take-out but the Montpelier location is sit-down, not sure about the new Waterbury location. I lived out west for many years, nothing beats Roberto's in San Diego but Mad Taco is pretty good.
