I have to say, I think you will have trouble finding a good career no matter where you go.

Whereas ten years ago there were certain parts of the country that were known for job growth and everyone wanted to flock to those areas, you don't see that much if at all these days.

Here you go on interviews for part time jobs and they act like you are getting a GREAT deal if they hire you at $12/hr.

We travel to and through Burlington often enough, I honestly don't think it offers that much more then the Upper Valley in the way of "things to do." Sure a bigger music and restaurant scene but I suspect you would exhaust the family opportunities there quickly as well.

As for jobs, is it really that much better then this area? I honestly don't know.

Personally, as much as I defend the UV and Vermont, if I were to move, I wouldn't bother moving again in VT or NH. I've lived here all my life and I'm nearly ready for a completely new scene.

I can only guess, as we don't know each other personally, that no where in VT, will be so night-and-day different that it will take you from "disappointed" to "happy." Maybe it will take you to" slightly-less-disappointed" to move to Burlington, but for the expense and hassle of a move, is that worth it? It wouldn't be for me.

We are looking at the PacNW (Oregon, Washington) or perhaps Colorado, Utah, somewhere west for sure. Milder winters, but still 4 seasons, decent cost of living and job market. A place where we can grow.

Just thinking out loud here. I wish you the best in whatever you choose. This area can be a real witch, especially now that times are tough. We recently advertised a few mid-level marketing positions and received THOUSANDS of applications from all over the country... it's insane the competition and the hugely over-qualified candidates.

I feel for you, I honestly do, good luck in whatever path you choose.
