Anyhow, a little bit of racism is no big deal for me. It's everywhere. I would consider a huge metropolis with every kind of ethnicity possible but that doesn't solve the problem in my opinion since people self segregate into their own neighborhoods.
In order to get the correct answer to this question, you must ask a self-proclaimed "real Vermonter". They will then tell you that you are not one. And you should consider yourself lucky, it's not a group in which you want membership, trust me.
My answer: You know you're a real Vermonter when your truck goes through the "ice" on Mallet's Bay, preferably in April.

As a "real Vermonter," I find that funny. "Real" Vermonters are the ones sitting around the stove quietly going "AhYup, that dam fool drove his truck out on the ice again" in an Elizabethan accent, nodding, and going back to the game of checkers. Listen to some Ernest Colburn sometime.

I don't need membership in any groups but I would like to be friends with them.

I'll be happy if I just fit in with the majority of people in the community. From what I've read I'm nearly in tune with Vermont's ways (I'm pro-gun, pro-farmer, etc.)

"Real Vermonters" are those who can trace their family in this state to before the Revolution (the Vermont Revolution I'm tempted to say: we fought everyone, and won...). Some say 200 years is enough but I disagree, my family beat them by some decades...

I've gone through the ice but not in a truck. I was setting beaver and muskrat traps. And not in April either.
