I'm purchasing a local retail shop that has been in business about 4 years but has had a logo for about 2 years. I don't particularly like the logo but I am keeping the business name. Do you think it's a problem to change the logo as far as being recognized or people being attached to it in some way?
It's on their FB page, business cards and maybe appeared in some local ads but that's it. They don't have a web site or other print material with it.

Even well-established international chains change their logos to freshen their image. A small business that's known in the area will not lose customers due to a logo change, especially if the name remains the same. Go for something you like that's in step with the times and fits the area you are in. When I bought a business in 1993 that was the first thing I did, new logo, signs, and
business cards and it grew well for 17 years.

It is good to update the logo and identity. As far as facebook page, use the new logo as the primary and keep the old logo around to help people to identify with the old name or logo.
There is no problem in changing the logo. Lot of brands do a brand make-over. You can bring about a refreshing change to the current identity of your business. Logo's cant be changed too often also. So put in a lot of thought into what you want the logo to be. It should be related to the business, the color scheme and design should be appealing and simple. All the best!
