I plan to do some more advertising this year as I have 2 small companies. I do boat detailing and run a fishing charter/guide service in the local resort.
Since I have a couple businesses that I would like both to do well, there is such a thing as too much advertising as I still need to make money.
So what would the better search engine be? I set up the charter service on Google and then did it again on Microsoft. I tried Yelp last year for a bit but didn't like it.
Would Microsoft be the better one?
Why I ask is when looking for it on "Google" it goes straight to the Bing search engine. I actually have to type in google for a google search to come up but then it still shows it as Bing. I use internet explorer. Perhaps that is the reason?
Know what? I'd rather go the Facebook route. You can microtarget incredibly easily in terms of geographic radius, budget, and fields of interest. It also allows you to try out various messaging for tiny amounts of money.
If you do go the Google route, I'd find a small firm that specializes in search engine marketing. The rules for SEM and SEO change on an almost daily basis. The advice you read from two months ago might now work nearly as well today.
Facebook can be the better search engine. Facebook is one of the most used social media platform that's why you can choose Facebook to display your advertising.
I agree with others that Facebook would work well for your business since you're trying to attract local customers. It's so easy. Set up a page for each business, post photos with info, boost them by choosing your target audience, their interests, etc.
Sometimes we get customers in the store within the hour of doing a FB ad.
I don’t know if Facebook is really the way to go as everyone is suggesting. What are the odds you’ll be reaching people that need boat detailing? At least with Google, you can target people within your radius that are specifically searching for what you’re selling.

You can do targeting with Facebook. You choose the area, the ages, gender, their interests (boating, lakes, fishing). But he should also have his google business listing for people who search on google.

It still sounds like Google is more targeted. You can also choose the area but also the specific keywords. You can have an interest in boats, lakes, and fishing and not even own a boat. Whereas if you are searching specifically for "boat detailing", that conversion rate is probably going to be much higher. But I would imagine it's cheaper to advertise on Facebook so maybe do a comparison and see what yields the best results.
